RULES

general
• OOC/IC This is your basic "keep ooc and ic matters separate" rule. If you have a problem with someone ooc, then do not let it carry over into ic. Please remember that if a character is mean ic, that it's nothing personal; it's just how the character is...the mun does not have a vendetta against you! Additionally, please keep all information learned ooc, ooc. If Kamen's mun reads a private conversation between Venus and Moon about how fit Moon thinks he is, but Kamen isn't actually in the conversation, then Kamen's mun can't take this private information and use it in game because he wasn't there when the conversation took place. Make sense?
• POWER PLAY Another basic rule, but under no circumstances should you power play (aka controlling another player's character) or god mode, etc. Say that Venus fires her crescent beam at an enemy...well, she can't say whether it hit or not since she is not playing the enemy; only the enemy's writer can say what effect it had. However, please keep in mind that you cannot dodge every single attack and if you're playing a villain, expect to take a majority of the hits. These kids are super heroes and therefore they are going to win since they're the good guys. That doesn't mean that you have to take every hit, but do take a lot of them. Likewise, the girls often found themselves in trouble too...so even though they're super heroes, they could just as easily fall victim to their enemy's attacks. There were many times in the series where one of the girls was in serious trouble and the rest of the senshi had to come to her aid. It's no different here.
• CHARACTER LIMIT At the moment, our character limit per player is three. However, with the high demand of playing a senshi, each player can only play one senshi. It wouldn't be fair to the other people wanting to join the game if one person was playing Moon, Venus, and Uranus, you know? For that reason, each player can only play one senshi. Furthermore, you can't play characters with strong ties to each other. For instance, someone couldn't play both Sailor Moon and Tuxedo Kamen since those two characters have a lot of interacting to do with each other. So for now, the character limit is at three, you can only have one senshi each, and you can't play two characters who have very close ties.
• AGE REQUIREMENT Because of the themes in the game, we are unfortunately going to have to install an age requirement...set at age 16. However, we can make adjustments! If we think that you're mature enough to handle the game (which we're sure most of you are), then chances are very high that you'll still get it!
• PBS Please be sure that the PB you've selected works with the character you're going to be playing. While they don't have to look like the original character from the series, they do have to meet certain requirements. For instance, if you're going to be playing Sailor Neptune, you couldn't use a 30 year old to portray her since she has to be in the age range of 18-21. We do have a general list of banned PBs, but it's only limited to overused pbs, major a-list celebrities (like Lindsay Lohan or Paris Hilton), and scene kids/myspacers (like Audrey Kitching.) In some cases we might lift the ban (such as the scene kid ban) if we feel that they do fit the character...for instance, if you were applying as a villain with an Audrey Kitching pb, that would probably be acceptable. Also, we want diversity in our PBs! New York is a melting pot and we want to see that reflected in the PBs chosen. How awesome would Chanel Iman as Sailor Moon be? Or an interracial Uranus/Neptune? Not everyone is a blonde hair, blue eyed Caucasian girl that would fit in beautifully on a runway. Not everyone is going to be going for the model of the year award; plain old civilians are going to look ordinary, villains are going to look scary. Just use your better judgment and you should be fine! Mods also have the right to reject any PB.
• DEATH/SEX/DRUGS/PREGNANCIES Some of these are pretty dark themes; some were even used in the series (like death, obviously.) And yes, we'll be using some of those themes in here, too. Death will be a big one...though the only people dying will be random, only-mentioned-once civilians, I'm sure. You are not allowed to kill off your character (unless you're an original civilian or original villain and you want to leave the game.) As far as sex goes, it can happen...but it would be a rarity. This isn't a smut game, so don't make it into one. Besides that, I really don't think the sailor senshi would be going around having sex all the time when there's a universe to be saved, you know? Drugs are acceptable (just not for the sailor senshi or anyone playing a good guy since they're supposed to be role models and probably wouldn't get into that sort of stuff) and it probably makes sense that your character would use them if they're a hardcore villain. But again, good guys will not be allowed to use drugs, sorry. Finally, pregnancies. Once again, the senshi will not be allowed to get pregnant! Villains probably wouldn't get pregnant, either...they don't have time to have kids if they're trying to destroy the world. So that leaves civilians...but we aren't down with teen pregnancies, so pretty much the only way you could have a pregnant character here is if your character is an adult civilian. If you do want to have a pregnant character, then the pregnancy will last for one full ooc month and you must ask a mod before going through with it.
• GRAMMAR All players are required to have a strong grasp on the English language here at Starlight. Literacy is obviously a big part of role playing, so it only makes sense that you would have a good grasp on reading and writing. We understand the common typo or misspelled word (no one is perfect after all) but spell check is available through IJ, so there's no reason why you shouldn't use it. Besides, no one wants to rp with someone who they can't understand! Where's the fun in that?!

senshi
• GENERAL KNOWLEDGE In order to apply for a senshi, it only makes sense that you would know the general knowledge of the senshi you are applying for...i.e. knowing that Sailor Uranus's element is sky, that Sailor Moon is the leader of the senshi, that Tuxedo Kamen is destined to be with Sailor Moon, etc. If you need to brush up on your knowledge, then we suggest checking out WikiMoon!
• INNER/OUTER TEAMS In case you didn't know (but we're sure that you did!) the Sailor Senshi team is divided into two: the inner senshi and the outer senshi. The inner senshi (consisting of Mercury, Mars, Jupiter, Venus) work to protect their leader, Sailor Moon, and serve as her closest guardians. The outer senshi team (consisting of Pluto, Neptune, Uranus, and Saturn) work to defend the universe from outside invaders. In this game, though, both teams will be working together. They will both still have their same duties (the inners will still protect Moon while the outers fend off outside invaders) but the two teams are going to work more as one big group with their teams doing their individual duties. Basically, they'll be one happy family as opposed to the awkward separation that seemed to be going on between the outers and inners during the anime.
• IN GAME SENSHI At this time, we are only allowing the inner and outer senshi in the game. This means that the only senshi that can be applied for are Moon, Mercury, Mars, Jupiter, Venus, Pluto, Neptune, Uranus, and Saturn. As we make our way through future arcs, though, more senshi will become available...such as Sailor Chibi Moon and the Sailor Stars. We'll let people know when this time comes!
• UNIFORMS/DEVICES/POWERS Though this is the next generation of sailor senshi, the uniforms and devices are still identical; nothing has changed! From Sailor Venus's red bow right down to Pluto's boots, everything is the same! Under the sailor senshi page, we've provided a list of devices that each senshi comes equipped with. However, some of these devices will not be given to the senshi until later arcs in the game. For instance, each inner senshi has a communication watch, but they will not be given this watch until they've awakened and joined the sailor team. Likewise, the talismans that the outer senshi carry (garnet orb, space sword, and deep sea mirror) will not be awarded to the senshi until later in the game. Other than that, each senshi will receive her special device when they become part of the sailor team and some devices come with the uniform (i.e. Venus's V chain, Mercury's mini computer and visor, and Jupiter's lightning rod.) As far as powers go, upon first becoming a scout, each senshi will remember her very first ability from her past. So, when Sailor Mercury is awakened, she will remember the words "Shabon Spray" and then instinct will kick in and she'll know to use it. As we progress through later arcs, the senshi will learn more and more abilities...but absolutely no senshi will remember all of her former abilities at once because that would just be unfair.
• PERSONALITIES/TRAITS Since this is the next generation of sailor senshi, you are free to make your character as different or as similar to the original senshi as possible. However, there are some terms that you have to follow. Major personality traits that made each original senshi who they were (Mercury's brains, Pluto's sophistication, Venus's spunk, etc.) have to remain the same and we have to see a little bit of the former scout reflected into the new person. This doesn't mean that they have to be copies of their former selves, but a few quirks and a major personality trait would not be out of the question for the new senshi. Other than that, do what you will! Just don't completely abandon the former senshi's personality to adopt a whole new persona. While Mercury might be in the form of a new girl, she's probably not going to be a total slacker and skip school all the time...and Jupiter's probably not going to be a total pushover and let people walk all over her, but at the same time she might not be a tom-boy anymore. You get the picture!
• CANON KNOWLEDGE Though we are allowing you to change the personality and looks of this new senshi, there are some canon things that we cannot ignore, specifically the canon relationships. Sailor Moon and Tuxedo Kamen were destined to be together, and that's still very true in this game. Though they might not know it until they're reawakened, once they do remember, the two will be expected to be crazy about each other once more. I mean, c'mon, this is destiny people! There is more room, however, when it comes to the relationships between the inner senshi and shitennou...it was really only hinted that there were relationships going on between the shitennou and senshi; the only relationship that had real canon substance to it would be Kunzite and Venus. So if Jadeite wants nothing to do with Mars, well, that's okay...even if the idea of the four shitennou and four senshi being in love with each other is really quite romantic. We must, however, insist that Uranus and Neptune remain a couple. That was a big, huge part of who they were and as you can imagine, when the two undergo their reawakenings, they're going to remember each other and their relationship and I imagine that their love will reawaken as well. So Uranus and Neptune must remain a couple, too. I mean, seriously, watch this video and then tell me you don't want to play the two as a couple! Honestly!

shitennou
• GENERAL KNOWLEDGE If you're applying for a shitennou, then it only makes sense that you would have some general knowledge about the knights and specifically the knight you're applying for. There are only four knights and their leader, Prince Endymion/Tuxedo Kamen. If you need to brush up on your shitennou information, check out WikiMoon!
• HIERARCHY In case you didn't know, there is a hierarchy to the shitennou, and it goes as follows: Tuxedo Kamen is the leader (and therefore number one), Kunzite is first in command after him, Zoisite is second in command, Nephrite is third in command, and finally we have Jadeite as fourth in command.
• IN GAME SHITENNOU Since there are only four shitennou anyway, the only ones we're allowing in the game are Kamen, Zoisite, Jadeite, Nephrite, and Kunzite.
• UNIFORMS/DEVICES/POWERS Like the senshi, nothing has changed about the uniforms that the shitennou wear; they still have their military like uniforms. Also like the senshi, they might have devices, but they won't actually receive these devices until they are reawakened. Finally, the same goes for their powers as it does for the senshi...when they are reawakened, they remember their first ability or what have you and as the game progresses, they will slowly start to remember more and more...none of them will remember all of their abilities at once.
• PERSONALITY/TRAITS Like the senshi, you are free to make the shitennou as similar or different as you like, as long as you keep their major personality trait the same. Feel free to change up quirks and personality traits but be sure to keep their stronger personality trait the same; that's all we ask.
• CANON KNOWLEDGE Some canon knowledge goes for the shitennou as well, though it was pretty much already covered in the senshi section. All canon couples will remain the same in Starlight as they were in the series, meaning that Kamen and Moon will be a couple once reawakened...and the same could possibly be said of Kunzite and Venus; they don't necessarily have to end up dating each other, but the two would probably be in love since it was hinted at in the series. It is also implied that the other shitennou were in love with the other senshi (Jadeite & Mars, Zoisite & Mercury, and Nephrite & Jupiter)...but since nothing is set in stone and nothing is for sure canon, nothing romantic has to happen between these couples; despite the fact that the idea is romantic! That much is all up to you!

villains
• GENERAL KNOWLEDGE If you're applying for a villain, you should probably have some general knowledge about them from the series (unless, of course, you're applying for an original villain.) If you need some help brushing up on your villain of choice, we suggest checking out WikiMoon!
• CREATING A VILLAIN Creating a villain really isn't as daunting as it might seem. However, you have several different choices for villains. You can create a rainbow crystal carrier (someone who is normal, but when their crystal is removed becomes a monster), a youma ("monster of the day"...just your typical monster), an original villain who was recruited by The Darkness, or a monster from the series (like the Doom & Gloom Girls.) You can read up about Rainbow Carriers, youma, and monsters from the series at the WikiMoon site, but if you're opting to create your own new villain, there are a few things you should keep in mind: the villain was recruited and is therefore NOT a reincarnation of anyone; they're just some sad person who got picked up by The Darkness and given powers. And speaking of powers, you'll have to have in mind what you want your villain's sphere to be (like Neptune has deep waters and Moon has purification), a first ability, transformational devices, and their villain attire. Please keep in mind, though, that they can't be an all-powerful monster and they will have weaknesses as well. If you need help with anything, let us know!
• ACCEPTABLE VILLAINS Currently, we are accepting Rainbow Crystal Carriers, new youma, original villains, and villains from the series. For a complete list of villains from the series that we would be willing to accept, please see the "wanted" page.
• DEVICES/POWERS Depending on the villain, they will probably have devices. However, like the shitennou and senshi, they won't get these devices until they are awakened or recruited. And again, they will have powers to battle good, but they won't learn all of their abilities at once...it'll be a slow process where they'll only learn one at a time.
• CANON KNOWLEDGE Canon knowledge is going to be a big thing here. If you're playing a villain from the series, obviously they aren't going to suddenly be good...villains are bad people and should stay that way! Let's take the Amazoness Quartet. Though they aren't in play now, when we do allow them into the game, they're going to start out as being evil because that's how they were in the series. However, like the series and canon evidence shows, the girls reform and eventually become sailor senshi. This is canon, so we'll allow it. But villains like the Doom & Gloom Girls were never reformed, so they're going to have to stay evil.

civilians
• GENERAL KNOWLEDGE As to be expected, general knowledge of the civilian you are applying for (unless you're creating an original civilian) is required! To brush up on your general knowledge, check out WikiMoon!
• CREATING A CIVILIAN There's really nothing to creating a civilian; you're essentially just creating an original character. If you're creating a reborn civilian, there was obviously some reason why Sailor Moon sent them to be reborn; after all, they're just a civilian, there's nothing special about them. If you're playing Osaka Naru, maybe Sailor Moon couldn't bear the thought of living a new life without one of her best friends from school, so she sent her to be reawakened in a new life? Something like that would definitely work. So just come up with a really awesome reason and get started with your new civilian!
• ORIGINAL CIVILIANS Original civilians are more than welcome here! After all, there were more people than just Usagi's friends who needed saving; we need total and complete strangers in here too!
• DEVICES/POWERS They're civilians, so chances are extremely high that they don't have any devices or powers. Sorry!
• FAMILY MEMBERS/RELATIONSHIPS You can apply as family members of reborn characters, so long as that's alright with the character in question. However, you cannot be a long lost sister of the original Kunzite or Sailor Uranus.

journals & activity.
• JOURNALS There's really nothing special about the journals in this game...consider them something like myspace or facebook. Everyone has one of those, having an online journal is just the big thing now...so everyone has one. Of course, there have been advancements made. Should Moon want to make certain things private to only the scouts, she can place a "private" tag on part of the entry, which only allows the senshi to see it. It would look something like this:

Private to Senshi
Whatever secrets she has to talk about here
End Private to Senshi

Entries can be made private to oneself by doing the same thing. Entries can also be made private against someone. If Mars doesn't want Jadeite reading what she's put, she would put this:

Private Against Jadeite
Whatever she wants to say here will then be private to everyone except Jadeite, who won't be able to read it.
End Private Against Jadeite

Other than that, journals work for everyone in the game normally. You can write first person entries in them much like you would a regular online journal and then the rest of the players can comment on the entries...again, just like a regular online journal. There's really nothing magical about them, they're just a fad of the times and also help everyone keep in contact with each other.
• ACTIVITY Activity is a must in order to keep a game going. Therefore, we are going to have fairly strict activity standards. You must post one journal entry every week and a half (of course you can post more than that) and at least one thread every three weeks. We also have more options to stay active, like commenting on journal entries and sending "text messages" and "emails" (an example of how to do this is below.) Doing things like this will keep you active and let us know you're still here! You will be given three warnings before you are removed from the game.
• THREADS Threads are how we're going to rp around here and you can either do them through the community or through AIM logs (however, if you do an AIM log, be sure to post it in the RP community.) Threads should be organized like this:

WHO: Which characters are involved?
WHAT: What are they doing?
WHEN: When does it take place?
WHERE: Where does it take place?
RATING: What rating does it have? G, PG, PG-13, R, or NC-17?

(Then, you'd place your thread starter under an lj-cut with witty lyrics or whatever you want!)

You can also stay active by sending text messages or emails from your character to other characters, like the examples below:

text message
to: venus
from: moon
sent: 08/01/08
message: Hey, meet me for ice cream?

to: moon
from: venus
sent: 08/01/08
message: Sure! Meet you there soon!

email
to: mercury@hotmail.com
from: jupiter@hotmail.com
subject: Study Group?
body: Can we meet at your house for a study group tonight?

to: jupiter@hotmail.com
from: mercury@hotmail.com
subject: RE: Study Group?
body: Of course you can! See you guys soon!

instant message
sailor uranus: You there?
sailor neptune: Yeah, just a bit busy. I can make time for you though.

You can also pass notes between characters, have them call one another, characters can instant message each other...generally any way that you can keep in contact with someone in a modern era, these kids can use that too. If you aren't sure how to format the thread, texts, emails, etc. just let us know and we'll be more than happy to help you!
• TIME Time in game isn't going to be too awfully difficult: whatever the day is today is the same day IC. So if it's August 1st ooc, then it's August 1st ic. The year is 2008 and the game opens August 23rd.
• HIATUSES It's to be expected that people are going to need hiatuses, so don't worry! We're very flexible when it comes to taking time off! To take a hiatus, just notify a mod about when you'll be gone and roughly for how long. If you don't tell a mod and you just up and disappear, we might think that you've lost interest in the game and end up removing you. So just make it easy on us and let us know if and when you have to take a hiatus.
